My original idea was, a scene from "Gladiator".... but after speaking to Steve, we both relised the scene had too many blurs and would have made the tracking on "matchmove" differcult.
So i chose a scene from the movie "Brick" by Rian Johnson
And the scene chosen is:
The character in the movie "Brendan", walks towards the phone booth - when the phone starts ringing. The idea is to animate a rigged character, who... will be sitting next to Brendan and as Brendan gets up, walks towards the phone booth - the rigged character "Moom" throws a stone at the booth and walks away from Brendan.
I first had to rip a dvd, to have the scene i'd wanted. Using a software to rip the scene, i then used After Effects to cut the scene down as the chapter ripped was too long. Imported the clip to maya and began tracking with "MatchMove", after inputting 10 tracking points (the scene i a wide still shot) , i then used the tool "Solve" and began with a problem. The camera was moving up and down rapidly e.g:
After showing this to Steve, it was discussed that the tracking wasnt needed, as this scene is very still and we couldn't understand why the camrea was moving so much. so, I began to animate Moom over the piece - of scene, chosen. But first, had to model a stone for Moom to throw:
the lighting was very basic.... i did have trouble with the shadowing. This is one area I need to polish up and learn how to master. Because off the delay on choosing a clip (before Gladiator), I didn't have time to develop and complete. So the shadowing is very limited:
The lights effects which were used are: Directional light and Area light.
i only discovered the wrong angle of the shadows when rendered, so i did note down the mistake. I went ahead with the animating, even though the shadowing was facing the wrong way. i took a pic of ben, to help me with the starting pose:
with a few adjustments, i decided to make moom sleep pose...."like he's bored in waiting for the phone to ring".
After finishing the animation, i made three mb files, seperating the scene into three parts. Couldnt work out how to unparent the stone from the hand, without messing up the animation.
So i spit the scene.
Inputted the file on after effect and adjusting the position of moom (who is sitting next to Brendan), to line up the whole animation sequence. Which after, i exported the piece as a movie file. Began to then edit the clip, with sound effects. The phone ringing from the movie sound and then adding a sound, of the stone hitting the phone booth. Downloaded the stone effect from the internet and then edited the length, on Adobe Premiere Pro cs3.
I need to polish up on my lighting skills and animation. The finished product could have been better, but i couldnt handled the amount of work for the Environment assignment, which affected my focus on this assignment...
